Coming Together to Serve

HVMC held its fifth Life Group Convention on 1 May 2026, with Mr Wayne Sim, from Youth with a Mission (YWAM), as the Conference speaker. Mr Sim shared how love, as a life group and a church, fuels our outreach expressions, while Pastor Jeremy reminded us that life groups do not exist just for Bible study or evangelism, but to reveal God’s glory to every generation. The convention closed with everyone committing to support the various ministries in PRAYER and to PARTICIPATE in these ministries as a life group.

Here, some of the participants express how they found the convention to be a rewarding experience:

“This year’s Life Group Convention served as a valuable platform for the Outreach & Social Concerns (OSC), Missions, School and Sports Ministries, to highlight their respective areas of service. We heard meaningful testimonies demonstrating the impact these ministries have not only on those we serve, but also on those who serve. We also gained insight into the ongoing work of God within the community, as well as the expression of His love through ministry efforts.

Wayne Sim facilitated discussions addressing how life groups could actively engage in these ministries through participation, financial support, or prayer. The involvement and enthusiasm of the youth were particularly notable, signifying the next generation’s dedication to contributing and serving. We were reminded by Pastor Jeremy in his concluding remarks that service should not be confined to specific ministries, encouraging all to pursue opportunities as God opens doors, whether within or beyond the church.”

“During the LG Convention, while we were reflecting on God’s purpose for the different ministries in our church, I was reminded of three things:-

  • Firstly, as a church, we need to be more aware of the needs in the various ministries and fervently pray for them. Often, we are too fixated on our own problems, even though there are many other pressing needs that God calls us to attend to and pray for.

  • Secondly, we need to realise that God is more than able to bless these ministries and provide for all their needs. Sometimes, we doubt God’s ability to solve problems that seem too large. May we humble ourselves before God so that our prayers are not hindered.

  • Lastly, we are called to see and realise what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called His children. A deeper understanding of God’s love for us will cause us to be more compassionate towards others, and motivate us to lead people to Christ because we care for their eternal souls.”

“This is my first time attending the convention - it was really nice to see the church community and different life group members praising God together, and to get to know them better, to fellowship and learn together as one.

We prayed for the ministries, focusing on these two guiding questions:

  • ‘Hear with our hearts again, Father, what is your heart for this group of people?’

  • ‘What do you want to say about this for our season now?’

As we prayed, we received the same message – to share our Father’s love, practically and intentionally, with our neighbours, the community around our church, the school, and the missionaries. We can even reach out to people through sports such as football, pickleball and badminton, and pray for more church members to join and bring friends as a form of outreach.

I learned deeper that praying together as a community, for others, is so powerful, as we discern the Lord’s direction together as a life group, discussing what is the next step, what to change, how to reach out to more people who need the Lord, and move together as one.

Certainly, I am making it a priority to attend the Life Group Convention next year, on 1 May 2027. Do join me!”
