Growing Up with HVMC

On 13 July 2025, Holland Village Methodist Church (HVMC) celebrated our 13th anniversary with a joy-filled morning of fellowship, worship and hearing God’s Word, delivered by Trinity Annual Conference (TRAC) President, Rev Reuben Ng.

The celebration of HVMC’s anniversary holds special significance for my family. My older son, Matthew, was born in 2012 – the year HVMC was founded – and he literally grew up with the church. Each year as we celebrate HVMC’s anniversary, I am reminded of the many milestones both he and the church have had, and the many instances of God’s faithfulness and blessings over the years.

One of the greatest blessings has been the Children Ministry. From the earliest preschooler classes (and my heartfelt thanks to the teachers for their patience and love) to the thoughtful children’s camps and holiday programs – the Children Ministry has anchored Matthew (and our second son, Timothy) in the church community and encouraged a closer walk with God.

HVMC Youth Ministry

This year marks a new chapter as Matthew moves up to the Youth Ministry (YM), another testament of God’s shaping hand. The YM has grown significantly over the years, nurtured by faithful volunteers and staff. Today, it is home to a passionate community of young people who are hungry for God. I have witnessed how the YM is not just shaping minds but also changing hearts and developing leaders who are on fire for Christ.

The anniversary celebration came fresh off the back of our church camp in June, which for me was a great time of spiritual refreshment and a powerful reminder that God has a purpose for each of us. Rev Reuben Ng’s message, “Shaped by Hand”. drawn from Jeremiah 18:6 – “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand” – reinforced that we are all being lovingly moulded by the Potter for His divine purposes, even when we might not be able to fully see the shape He is forming.

The anniversary service itself was a vibrant time of worship and reflection.  I  would also like to give a shout out to the amazing Worship Ministry, which has likewise been such a blessing over the years. A highlight of the celebration (aside from the bubble tea and crepe station afterwards) was the cake-cutting, which was especially memorable with the strong representation of our children and youth. It was truly a reflection of how much the church has grown – and the promise that the best is yet to be.
