Meet Sue-Anne Wu: Staff (School Ministry & Youth)

#introduction #aboutme

Sue‑Anne’s home is a hub of activity – with four boys between the ages of seven and fifteen, and three adopted neighbourhood cats, her home is continuously filled with  liveliness, energy and warmth. She is grateful for her husband who graciously bears with the daily noise and bustle.

The family enjoys the outdoors – going cycling or hanging out at the beach. Sue-Anne also enjoys running (this writer is not sure where she gets her energy from!). To recharge, she reads and connects with friends and family over home-cooked meals or cold brew coffee.

#career journey #WalkingByFaith

Before joining HVMC, Sue‑Anne practised law, served as a full‑time youth worker in an Anglican church, and spent many meaningful years as a stay‑home mum. During this season of caring for her very young children, she also completed her theological studies part‑time.

One of Sue‑Anne’s life theme verses is Matthew 4:4 –

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God”.  This is a verse that has guided her through many major decisions in her life. It has also encouraged her to wait on the Lord’s Word and timing.

The Lord opened the door for Sue‑Anne to join HVMC’s ministry team in April 2025. The opportunity came through a WhatsApp message sent to a group of more than 30 people, and Sue‑Anne was the only one who responded!  Looking back, she sees the Lord’s unmistakable preparation and leading.  She also finds confidence in the Lord’s answering of each of her five “wishes” she had prayed for in a job – all of which were fulfilled in this role!

#MinistryCalling #FaithInAction

Serving in the School Ministry, Sue‑Anne’s role is to be a bridge between the school ministry and the youth at HVMC. She attends the Saturday Youth Service monthly and hopes to participate more often as her family settles into the rhythm of the school year. One of her personal goals in ministry is learning to listen well – an aspiration she highlights as challenging for her.

Since joining HVMC, Sue‑Anne has been deeply encouraged by the volunteers and staff. Much of her work involves continuing and strengthening ministries that have already been lovingly established. One particularly meaningful highlight was the 2025 “Christmas in October” outreach, which welcomed about 60 ACS (International) students from China. In collaboration with Jack (the students’ guardian and an HVMC member) and his wife Celine, the youths enjoyed a time of games, carols and sharing of testimonies. They had the opportunity to hear a short Christmas message, and for many students, it was their first Christmas celebration and the first time hearing the true meaning of Christmas.

#ToGodBeTheGlory

Sue‑Anne draws strength from the story of Jesus feeding the multitude in Luke 9. She shares that the call is not to “do everything” but to simply bring what we have to Jesus, that is, to bring our “five loaves and two fish” to Jesus. As promised in Ephesians 3:20-21, we can trust that God is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us. To Him be the Glory.
