Introducing Benjamin Quek

Benjamin Quek joined HVMC as the new Lay Ministry Staff (LMS) for School Ministry in May 2023. At 26 years old, he has two siblings and is the youngest in the family. Though he grew up in a Buddhist household, he and his sister are Christians, and he is trusting God for his parents' and brother's salvation. He worships at Evangelize China Fellowship (ECF) Holy Word.

“WHAT AM I LIVING FOR?”

When Benjamin was in Secondary 3, in an Anglican mission school, he went through severe teenage angst and growing pains; he suffered from low self-esteem, felt mediocre, and unloved. Life to him was just boring and mundane as he questioned, “What am I living for?”

The breakthrough for Benjamin came during one of the school’s chapel services. Pastor Amos Tan (coincidentally our 2023 HVMC Church Camp speaker) had given an invitation to the students to go up to the front to be prayed for. At that time, Benjamin thought, “Why not give it a shot?” and went up. He shares his amazing encounter with God: “Before anyone had prayed for me, I just started to cry uncontrollably, and in my heart, I felt so very loved; I had experienced the love of God for myself! It was a powerful experience and when I went for class after that, a friend remarked, ‘You look happier’, and I was! I had encountered God, and He loves me! How could I not be happy? I had found what I was living for!”

BENJAMIN FELT GOD TELLING HIM, “GO FULL-TIME”

And that is why Benjamin is here in HVMC as LMS (School Ministry). It has always been in his heart for others to experience what he had, encountering God personally. After graduation, as he was praying and pondering over his next step, Benjamin felt God telling him, “Go full-time”. He continues to share, “The confirmation came in my daily Bible reading, in Numbers 1:49 - 53 (who said the book of Numbers is dry?). I saw how, while the other tribes in Israel were free to have their own vocations, the Levites were specially set apart for service unto God. In the next few days, I applied for a position in HVMC, and during the interview, I was surprised that Pastor Jeremy was a close friend of Pastor Amos! It was really a God-filled moment – How he has worked in my life, and made it come full circle!”

Benjamin remarks, “It is my fervent desire that God will do again in ACS (International) what He did in my life! I believe that God will bring about revival in the School. While I was on a prayer walk in the school grounds, God gave me this verse:

Until the Spirit is poured upon us from on high,
and the wilderness becomes a fruitful field,
and the fruitful field is counted as a forest.
- Isaiah 32:15

May God use every single one of us as His vessel of mercy and love to the staff and students of ACS (International), till the Spirit is poured from on high upon the School, and revival breaks out! Let’s continue to pray and intercede for the mission ground that God has given to HVMC!

Truly, to God be the glory, and the best is yet to be, in Jesus’ Name!”
