Ambassadors of Hope

James 2:14-17 reminds us, "What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, 'Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,' but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead."

Welcome to the vibrant heart of Holland Village Methodist Church's community outreach efforts, where the spirit of compassion and service finds its expression through the Outreach and Social Concerns Committee (OSC). Rooted in the teachings of Christ, and fuelled by the desire to extend His love to all, regardless of race, circumstance, or religion, the OSC is dedicated to befriending and serving those in need within our local community and church premises.

Every month, dedicated befrienders from the OSC serve as ambassadors of hope, offering essential financial assistance and fostering meaningful relationships with over 20 befriendee families. Through these interactions, the OSC embodies Christian virtues such as empathy, kindness, and solidarity, echoing the spirit of God’s Word.

Bursary Presentation

Christmas blessing

In addition to these foundational efforts, the OSC shares the joy of Christian fellowship through various outreach events. Among these, the year-end presentation of bursary awards stands out, where the OSC gathers to celebrate and encourage school-going children from befriendee families. These events feature games, dinner, and powerful testimonies from students like Shi Yu, who benefited not only financially, but also from the mentorship received from befrienders. Moreover, during the Christmas season, the OSC invites members of the HVMC family, to generously prepare gifts for over 30 befriendee families and children, commemorating the birth of Christ.

Visit to the Singapore Zoo

At Bird Paradise

Furthermore, the OSC extends its outreach to the students and teachers of ACS (International), nurturing the spirit of giving back to the community. Collaborative outings to Bird Paradise and the Singapore Zoo with the School's Interact Club have been a success for the past two years, reflecting the shared commitment to community service. These activities align with HVMC's school ministry, enhancing its impact and outreach efforts.

If you feel moved and would like to be part of the OSC as a befriendee or be involved in its activities, please contact Bruce Lim,  bruce@hvmc.sg.
