Grounded & Genuine
This year’s Youth Camp was held over four days, from 20 to 23 June, at Kampung Siglap Lifeskills Training & Retreat Centre. The theme was Grounded & Genuine and the speaker was Rev Benjamin Lau from Living Waters Methodist Church. 30 youths from HVMC and two invited guests participated in the camp.
This is what the participants have to say about the Camp:-
Rev Benjamin Lau
Joshua Xie, Age:15
The sessions by Pastor Ben taught us that having a grounded and genuine faith not only means being rooted in God and His Word, but also being thankful in everything.
My favourite moment was during the Evening Session on Day 3. Playing my guitar with the worship team, I really felt that God was here with us. Seeing so many youths respond to the altar call, really touched me.
Karik Cheng, Age:19
I learnt that serving God in the worship band does not mean that one cannot be ministered to. It was a moving and joyous experience to see everyone worshipping God with their whole hearts, singing and playing their instruments and enjoying the presence of the Lord.
Youth camp provides a space for us to lay everything down at the feet of Jesus and set our hearts to focus on things above and not on earthly things. It is definitely a great opportunity to bond with others and I believe that God will reveal Himself to us according to His perfect plan and His unfathomable wisdom!
Zoe Xie, Age:13
I loved the last night of camp during the altar call because I could really feel God's presence surrounding us and the Holy Spirit dwelling in us.
Because the Camp was superrrrr fun, next time I would like to invite my friends so that they, too, can experience God's love and enjoy themselves as well.
Olivia Pan, Age:13
I learnt that we should talk to God at any time, not just when things go wrong. We must stay grounded in God and rely on Him, remembering to give thanks to Him and not get too proud when we get complimented, as it is God who gives us strength to do things.
Andrea Koh, Age:15
The Camp reminded me that I I don't have to stress over everything and should trust in His plans for me as He is always there for me.
Ezrela (Ezzy) Chao, Age:17
I loved the Amazing Race! Being surrounded by close friends and sharing laughter with one another all throughout the day made it very memorable - whether we were ticking tasks off the checklist, dancing, eating or just talking,
I would definitely invite others to join Youth Camp, as it’s a wonderful time set aside to re-centre yourself and to connect with people going through similar struggles.
Nathaniel Tan, Age:13
I learnt that we must be faithful towards God and even if it seems like there is no way out of a problem, we should always trust in Him.
The Camp was extremely fun and exciting, and filled with many activities, my favourite being the Amazing Race!
Scenes from THE AMAZING RACE:-
Kaela Ho, Age:16
I realised that no matter how far I feel from God, He is still there and silently guiding me. So, I need to put in the effort to build a stronger relationship with Him.
Ariel Lee, Age:16
At the Camp, I found myself in a community where everybody is so comfortable with each other, using this common space and time to sing and devote that time to God. I also experienced a strong sense of wanting to be a part of the worship band but that is for the future, I guess. Overall, the Camp brought me closer to the Lord and I learnt it’s really never too late to come home to God and that He will always accept you. I was encouraged to want to go back to church again and to be part of a community like the one I experienced at the Camp.
Everyone was so welcoming, I will invite my friends to the next Youth Camp!
