Little Things Make a Big Difference

HVMC’s three-day Children’s Camp was held from 26-29 November 2025, with the theme, “Magnified: Seeing the Bigness of God in the Smallest of Things”.  It attracted 45 children, of which nine were invited guests.  18 youth and 11 adult volunteers stepped forward to lend a helping hand.

Here, two first-time volunteers share their experiences:-

“When I was asked to help out in the Children’s Camp, I had some reservations. Firstly, I wasn’t sure if I had prior plans on those days. Secondly, it was also my first time helping out and I did not know what would be required of me. And lastly, I thought it might not be as fun as going out with friends, or chilling at home.

But I finally agreed and chose to be in the Activities Committee, because I enjoy planning things. Together with Zephen, we organised games such as ‘Finding Nemo’ and ‘David and Goliath’.

I found the whole experience quite rewarding, and also got to know the other youths better. The three days passed more quickly than I had expected.  And, if I have the opportunity next year to help in the Children’s Camp, I would say “yes” without hesitation!”

- Matthew Png (14 years old)

“My first experience serving in a children’s camp was both humbling and deeply meaningful. Initially, I committed to serving for only one day, unsure if I was qualified to guide children spiritually. However, after witnessing God’s love reflected through the dedication of the team and the sincere joy of the children - their openness, trust, and simple faith deeply touched my heart – I was encouraged to continue serving with joy and anticipation.

The three days ended with a deep sense of fulfilment, knowing that God was working through the team despite our limitations. I learned that ministry is not about perfection or having all the right answers, but about being present, offering encouragement, responding with patience, and serving with a willing heart. Even small acts of kindness — a smile, a listening ear, or gentle guidance — can become powerful reflections of God’s love.

Personally, serving children is a precious calling. This meaningful experience inspired me to grow in humility and compassion and to trust that God uses willing hearts to plant seeds of faith in the next generation. I was grateful for this opportunity!

The Children’s Camp drew me closer to God after completing Disciple1 classes and reminded me to hold firmly to His promises, trusting that He will guide, strengthen, and work through me to bless others — truly embodying His words: ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding’ (Proverbs 3:5-6).”
