Making All Things New

Lunar New Year, in Chinese tradition is a time for new things – replacing the old and the bad with the new and the good. This is why we buy new clothes, spring clean our houses, and reforge or strengthen relationships with friends and family. This act of enriching life in our families, is something definitely worth celebrating.

The Witness & Evangelism Committee has been organising the Lunar New Year Celebration for several years now, because, a prospering life, both outward and inward, is only possible with Jesus at the centre! This event also facilitates HVMC’s outreach to our pre-believing friends and family.

This year, we had a total of 51 attendees, with 16 invited guests. There were games, an abundance of food, and sharing of the Word by Rev Irene Thung. She preached from Revelations 21:5, “Behold, I am making all things new”, sharing that with God, there will be:

  • A New Day with an abundance of divine opportunities. In the Greek language, there are two words used for “time” – Chronos and Kairos. Chronos refers to chronological time while Kairos refers to a divinely appointed time. By placing our trust in Jesus, we can expect many Kairos moments every new day.

  • New Wine with divine provisions. God is constantly making a way in the desert and streams in the wastelands because He supplies all our needs according to His riches in glory.

  • A New Song because of God’s divine interventions. With God on our side, our response is to praise the Lord for “He has put a new song in my mouth…”

Rev Irene Thung ended her sermon with a call for persons seeking new jobs and renewal of life – both physical and relational healing. Several persons responded to the call to receive prayer, trusting that God will make all things new in their situation, with one of them coming forward to stand in faith for a family member who was ill. Through this celebration, we praise God that one person prayed to receive Jesus into her life.

We ended the evening with our tradition of lighting sparkles at the carpark. It was a joyous sight witnessing the young and the old enjoying such a simple activity!

We praise God that through our simple act of organising a celebration, and our hosts in inviting their guests, we were able to be the Kingdom of God here on earth. It was truly a Kairos moment for both hosts and guests that evening! May we continue to nourish to flourish as we build up and reach out to every generation!
