Sharing Christ with Gentleness and Respect

Christmas is fast approaching and at HVMC, we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ through our Advent Carols event, where we sing carols and present a play. It is a wonderful opportunity to invite our loved ones to celebrate with us and for the good news of salvation to be heard and received by our friends, neighbours, relatives, and colleagues.

But how prepared are we to invite them? And are we ready to share our faith?

To equip us, HVMC will be launching the WIGR (Witnessing in Gentleness and Respect) study series. Developed at the conference level by the Board of Witness and Evangelism under TRAC (Trinity Annual Conference), this initiative was crafted for Methodist churches across Singapore to encourage and equip believers in sharing the Good News gently and respectfully.

What is WIGR all about ?

WIGR is a 4-session, video-based learning journey designed specifically for small group settings, like our Life Groups (LG). Guided by our LG facilitators, the series helps every member become a more confident, authentic witness — not by memorising scripts, but by reflecting on our mindsets and attitudes towards people of different faiths and backgrounds.

HVMC selected this curriculum to support our church direction of relational evangelism. Sharing our faith can feel daunting in our religiously plural society. Many hesitate because they fear coming across as pushy or disrespectful. WIGR addresses these concerns directly, guiding us to be witnesses of Christ in the way of Christ—with humility, active listening, and genuine love.

Through short videos, Bible reflections, and interactive group discussions, the four sessions cover the following practical skills:

  • Reflect: Examining our current understanding of evangelism and why it can feel difficult.

  • Learn: Seeing how Paul adapted his communication for different audiences.

  • Renew: Shifting our mindsets and methods to view evangelism as an ongoing journey.

  • Apply: Putting the B.L.E.S.S. framework into practice:

    • Begin with prayer

    • Listen to understand

    • Engage where they are

    • Self-aware and vulnerable

    • Share the Good News

HVMC will run WIGR across all LGs from 18 October to 14 November. If you are not currently in an LG, we warmly invite you to join a host group for this 4-week season - just email us at mail@hvmc.sg.

Witnessing doesn’t mean winning debates; it starts with a conversation, a listening ear, and the courage to share the One who transformed your life.

This journey is brought to you collaboratively by  HVMC’s Witness & Evangelism and Life Group Ministries as we adopt this TRAC-wide initiative. Together, let us prepare our hearts and hone our skills to share Christ, not only for this Christmas season, but whenever the opportunity presents itself.
